Description
In 1896, The Ladies Library Association of Independence Kansas started discussions with then Mayor Stich to have their own building. The city matched the library building funds and purchased the property at 5th and Maple. In the meantime, the Association applied for and obtained an Andrew Carnegie grant for $22,500 to build a library. The grand opening of the beautiful new Carnegie Independence Public Library was November 18, 1907! This is the original entrance, which is no longer used since the remodeling in 2006. So dramatic was that transformation that Independence Public Library was the winner of the 2012 Best Small Library in America Award, cosponsored by LJ and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Very mysterious and somewhat spooky like an old home that may be haunted. Great image.

A good photo. The place looks aged and a bit spooky too. The black and white gives me this effect. Well done, Jenny!
