Description
Lightning is a sudden and powerful electrostatic discharge during an electrical storm. It happens between electrically charged regions of a cloud, between two clouds, or between a cloud and the ground. This discharge is called a "strike" if it hits an object on the ground, and a "flash" if it occurs within a cloud. Thunder and lightning can appear quickly in the Plains States.
Out in the country between Independence and Elk City, Kansas.
