Description
The Outdoor Symbolic Memorial is part of the Oklahoma City National Memorial which honors the victims, survivors, rescuers, and all who were affected by the Oklahoma City bombing on April 19, 1995.
Twin bronze gates mark the formal entrances to the Outdoor Memorial and frame the moment of destruction, ~ 9:02. The eastern gate is inscribed "9:01" which represents the last moment of peace. The western gate, shown at the end of the reflecting pool, is inscribed "9:03," representing the first moment of recovery. Both inscriptions are on the interior of the gates, facing each other and the Reflecting Pool.
This photograph symbolizes the hands of God enveloping the sacred grounds of the memorial and the comfort, strength, peace, hope, and serenity offered to the visitor.
