Description
In 1933, Ezra Scattergood secured federal loans to construct the Boulder Dam-LA Transmission Line. The Bureau of Power and Light built a transmission line that spanned 266 miles and brought power from the Boulder Dam to Los Angeles. To carry the 287,000-volt conductors, two rows of towers, 109 feet high and spaced 800 to 1,000 feet apart, were erected from the Boulder power plant to the Cajon Pass. From there, single towers, 144 feet in height, carried the circuits the remaining 40 miles to Los Angeles.
These single towers are in Santa Clarita, California, and similar towers are often part of the stunning sunset views in the LA area.
