Description
The Mountain Communities of the Tejon Pass, or the Frazier Mountain Communities, in the San Emigdio Mountains is a region of California that includes Lebec, Frazier Park, Lake of the Woods, Pinon Pines, and Pine Mountain Club, in Kern County, Gorman in Los Angeles County and Lockwood Valley within Kern and Ventura counties. They are all within or near the Tejon Pass, which links Southern California with the San Joaquin Valley. It is known as "The Grapevine" to those traveling over the road.
California poppies, Lupines, and other wildflowers dramatically cover the hills in the springtime when there is sufficient rain. The San Andreas fault runs through the region, turning southeast on the west side of Interstate 5, just southwest of the Frazier Park exit in what is known as the Big Bend of the San Andreas.
Among the wildlife is the rare California condor. Condor numbers dramatically declined in the 20th century due to poaching, lead poisoning, and habitat destruction. A conservation plan by the United States government completed the capture of the 27 remaining wild condors in 1987. These surviving birds were bred at the San Diego Wild Animal Park and the Los Angeles Zoo. Numbers rose and, beginning in 1991, condors were reintroduced into the wild. The California condor is one of the world's rarest bird species: as of December 2015, there are only 435 condors living wild or in captivity.
This ranch is located on Frazier Mountain Park Road, down the mountain from Pine Mountain Club taken in March of 2017. A record rainfall created the green pasture.
