Description
The Oceanside Pier, located in Oceanside, in northern San Diego County, California, is a 1,954-foot-long wooden pier on the western United States coastline. It was first built in 1888 at what is now Wisconsin Avenue but was destroyed by storms in the winter of 1890. It was rebuilt in 1893 at Pier View Way, where all subsequent piers have been located. Four iterations of the pier were built and then destroyed by heavy storms.
The current pier was built and formally opened to the public in September 1987, for $5 million. It is a popular fishing spot and 50's style Ruby's Diner is located at the end. Surfing is very popular on both sides of the pier.
