Description
In the 1950s, the Independence (Kansas) Jaycees inquired of the Santa Fe about an engine for the park, and the 1050 is what showed up at the depot. Used by us baby boomers for climbing all summer, it is still there, but much the worse for wear. Still worth a trip.
UPDATE 2024 - The city has begun renovating the Big Train. It is currently under a tent to facilitate the removal of any toxic waste, such as asbestos or lead paint.

beautifully presented. Love how you shot it, Jenny and would really like to have seen the inside and climbed around.
