Description
Los Angeles' palm trees, though non-native, were a cheaper option for landscaping. The city was promoted as a "semi-tropical paradise" and a massive planting effort in the 1930s resulted in over 40,000 trees being planted. However, diseases and pests threaten the trees, and they require excessive water. As a result, city planners will not replace dead palm trees with new ones but instead plan to reintroduce drought-resistant plants.

I love palm trees and I enjoyed the history in LA you presented. It will be sad to see them go. Nice capture, too!
