Artist's Description
She was every bit a pioneer as the male astronauts who made the headlines. She soared just as high - nearly 300 miles above the Earth traveling at speeds of 10,000 mph - at least two years before the men.
She is Miss Able, one of the first American monkeys in space who survived her flight. Now, she is a footnote in the history of the space race. Miss Able was a native Kansan, born and raised at the Ralph Mitchell Zoo in Independence.
These curious monkeys are her legacy, still at home at Monkey Island. While they are normally out playing on their own island at the zoo, it was less than 5 degrees Fahrenheit that morning. They wondered what I was doing outside in such ghastly cold.
About Jenny Revitz Soper
I've returned to my roots in Kansas after spending 45 years in Los Angeles. My passion for photography has always been an essential part of me, and I never leave home without my camera. I strive to capture the extraordinary in the ordinary, using clever juxtapositions, contradictions, bursts of color, and touches of whimsy. My photography is a true expression of how I perceive the world, staying authentic and genuine to myself. I believe it is the artist's vision that produces art, and I appreciate every method and technique utilized to achieve that vision. Occasionally, I use digital applications and artificial intelligence to produce my final vision. If you're interested in owning my art, FAA offers multiple ways to enjoy it, including...
